Drama (Players)
As St Hugh’s drama society, the St Hugh’s Players exist in order to support and encourage anyone involved with student drama in St Hugh’s and the wider university.
Our primary role is to act as a funding body, that is, to offer financial support to individual drama productions in the form of pro-rata loans. The student drama scene in Oxford offers an incredible range of opportunities, whether you want to get involved with plays or set up your own production. Drama societies such as St Hugh’s Players play a crucial role in making it possible for students to realize their ideas by offering them the financial means to get started. As a college society our main focus is on funding plays in which members of St Hugh’s are involved, but we also consider bids proposed by other members of the university.
We are furthermore there to help anyone who is interested in becoming involved with drama and is not quite sure how to go about it. We aim to support first-year students in submitting entries to the annual OUDS Cuppers festival and are working with other dramatic societies, such as OUDS and the Experimental Theatre Club, to promote ongoing workshops and events for those interested in drama.
Membership of the St. Hugh's Players is free and open to anyone currently studying at the college.
