‘Mes que un club’. The Yellows of SHFC are a welcoming football club for players of all abilities and are active every term with 11 a side in Michaelmas and Hilary, and 5 a side/futsal in Trinity term. Both the 1st XI and the 2nd XI have individual, competitive leagues and cup competitions, with the opportunity to play in a showpiece final event at Iffley Road Stadium. Very few college sports can boast the same feeling of elation as college football when you overcome a 3 goal deficit to win, or to gain promotion with the last kick of the season (as the 1st XI did in 2020). The football club is a very vibrant and social community: we are a band of brothers on and off the pitch. This is underlined by our history of going on tour every year in the Easter Vac and our various club curry/quiz/pub nights. So, if you’re looking to make the most of college life, make friends, and have fun outside of the rigour and work of university life, SHFC is the club for you!

Women’s football at Hugh’s is about to become your greatest love, whether you’re a semi-pro or someone who’s never kicked a ball in their life. The SHFC girls are a hilarious and committed bunch (except from when it rains) and we can always be relied upon to liven up a crewdate. Football is a great way to get out of college and blow away all the essay-induced cobwebs every Sunday and to make friends in other years that you might not otherwise meet. We may have “all the gear and no idea” but this year the Hassan’s Cup final is in sight, having made the semis two years on the trot (the boys will tell you this was purely via forfeits but they’re just jealous of our success…). If the game itself can’t persuade you, come along for the beautiful kit, strong stash game and hugely subsidised tours to Budapest. No skill or experience needed – just bring yourself, your enthusiasm and all your friends and we’ll provide the shin pads.
