Human Sciences Society

Representing the largest cohort of human scientists in Oxford, the St Hugh’s Human Sciences Society strives to create a supportive and dynamic space with a strong sense of community, that enables students to explore their subject in a new light whilst socialising with the other years.

We organise a very well-attended fortnightly discussion dinner, during which we enjoy a society-subsidised meal and have an hour-long discussion, starting from a prompt selected ahead of time by two different students each session. These meetings let us explore the interdisciplinarity of our degree to its full potential, as we undertake challenging debating in a more relaxed and interactive setting than that which we experience in the tutorial system.

We also host termly socials, which have in the past ranged from a restaurant dinner to a Christmas pasta party or a summer pizza night on the lawns, and plan to add some more, notably in freshers’ week.
